Projecting the image you want to project
This is one of the most important parts of creating a personal style, to me. I see clothing and fashion as a form of storytelling. Deciding what you want to tell is a big part of this. There are so many ways in which you want to come across, here are a few common examples:
- Professional and competent
- Warm and friendly
- Artistic and creative
- Individual and unique
- Sensual and attractive
- Fun and bubbly
- Mysterious and dark
- Elegant and sophisticated
- Coy and girly
etc.
Exactly how you want to come across can require a little soul-searching, but I believe most people, consciously or subconsciously, know how they want to come across.
There are a few questions you can ask yourself if you have trouble with pinpointing how you want to come across:
I really admire people who have/are (what particular qualities?).
I love when people say I have/am (what particular qualities?).
My absolute role model is …. I admire them because they have/are ….
After you figure out how you want to come across, you can truly start with creating your personal style!
